The Republican Party leads the voter registration in Schuylkill County according to official figures released by the county election bureau.
The registration period ended last Monday for the Primary Election to be held April 24. There are 84,819 registered voters in the county.
Only those registered Republican and Democrat are eligible to vote for the candidates who will be on the ballot in the primary election. However, there is an exception for the coming election for three townships and one borough located in the northeastern part of the county.
In McAdoo Borough and North Union, East Union and Kline townships, those not registered with either of the two major parties can come to vote but on a limited basis.
They can cast their vote only on a question which will be on the ballot pertaining to placement of a tax to support the Hazleton Public Library. The borough and three townships are part of the Hazleton Area School District.
The voter registration for the various parties and independents is as follows:
Republican, 40,366; Democratic, 36,046; Non-Partisan, 3,537; No Affiliation, 2,679; Independent, 1,310; Libertarian, 393; No Party, 110; Other, 56; Constitution, 44; Reform, 22; Patriot, 20; None, 20; Liberal, 11; Undecided, 9; Green, 8; Independence, 8; Independent Democrat, 6; Independent Republican, 5; Socialist, 5; Constitutional, 4; Conservative, four; American, four; Unknown, 3; Number 66 Pa. for Perot, 2; Christian, 2; Democratic Socialist, 2.
Those with one registered voter each are as follows:
Amercian Independent, American Nazi, Bi-Partisan, Bull Moose, Citizens, Communist, Consumer, Federalist, Independence Party of America, Independent, Labor, Moderate, Mutual, Neo-Agrarian, Neutral, New Patriot Party, Open, Tea Party, Uncertain, United We Stand, US Labor and Whig.
For those voters who will be out of their voting districts on election day they can vote by absentee ballot and are reminded their absentee ballots must be received in the election bureau no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, April 20, to be counted.
