The West Penn Township planning commission reviewed two plans on Tuesday evening at the municipal building to add subdivisions on Thomas W. Smith's property on Penn Drive on Route 443 and on Cynthia and Steven Hatton's property on Mush Dahl Road near Route 309.

Last month, the commission accepted a set of preliminary plans to add a trailer, which will serve as offices, on Smith's lot. At this month's meeting the plans were formally reviewed. Issues such as parking, a trash holding area and lot access were worked out with Township Engineer Ronald B. Madison, PE.A problem developed, however, when Madison found that an Erosion & Sediment Control plan (E&S) wasn't submitted. "In land development plans," Madison said, "you should have E&S plans, and that should be part of the approval process."Submitting an E&S plan now, Surveyor Bruce Steigerwalt said, would mean he has to redo the plans. He said he will have to talk to his client to see what the next move is. "I'm not going to say yes or no at this point in time," Steigerwalt said. An E&S would have to be approved either way if Smith wants to add the subdivision, Madison said.Surveyor Eric Light had it easier when he presented the plans for adding a lot on the Hatton property. Although Light is waiting for the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to respond about a sewage permit, he was granted the waivers he needed from the commission to get its recommendation for final approval of the plans.Next planning commission meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday Oct. 2 at the municipal building.
