Mamie Strohl celebrates 100 years

On Sunday, Mahoning Valley Nursing Home resident Mamie Strohl celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends.

Strohl was born Sept. 25, 1911 in what used to be known as Hatchery, Pa."It's under water now," said Strohl.She also attended school there in a one-room schoolhouse.She is the daughter of the late James and Emma (Dotter) Meinhart and wife of the late Clayton Strohl.A devoted wife and mother, Strohl spent much of her time caring for her family and eventually became employed as a house cleaner. She was also known for her exceptional baking skills and at one time sold her goods throughout the community.She had four children: Violet Holtzer of Lehighton, Mable Solt and Carl Strohl, both of Bowmanstown and the late Clayton Strohl Jr. She also enjoys nine grandchildren and several great and great-great-grandchildren.Strohl was a member of the Bowmanstown and Andreas Rod and Gun clubs and attended Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Bowmanstown.A party was thrown in her honor to celebrate the momentous occasion.
