Each year, one team always gives me fits

There usually is never a football season that goes by where one football team will give me fits through its entire schedule.

Sometimes it's Lehighton, sometimes it's Tamaqua and once in a while Northwestern Lehigh will be the team that I am snake bit by.Through the first three weeks of the 2011 season, there's a new team on the block. I haven't picked the results of a Marian game right yet this season.Last Thursday night, that was pointed out to me by former Panther Valley swim guru turned Marian football fanatic and West Penn used car salesman Mike Follweiler. Needless to say, he quickly reminded me that I picked against the Colts in the first two weeks and they were 2-0. I did point out to him that I did pick the Colts to beat Mahanoy so he shouldn't worry. Well maybe that was the wrong thing to say...the end result, a Marian loss. This week's schedule opens up with a pair of rivaly games as Pleasant Valley visits Lehighton and Jim Thorpe is at Panther Valley. And yes, before you ask, the Panthers are the home team.So let's take a look and see what the crystal ball has in the forecast for this week:PLEASANT VALLEY AT LEHIGHTON - Indians have put some points on the board and so have the Bears. This one could come down to what team has the ball last ... Pleasant Valley, 24-21.JIM THORPE AT PANTHER VALLEY - Olympians have given up over 60 points in each of their last two games, but look who they've played. This week Mark Rosenberger's squad gets a chance to play an opponent that is down on their level ... Jim Thorpe, 21-0.TAMAQUA AT MAHANOY AREA - Bears made believers of us last week with their third straight win, while Raiders were taken down in the fourth quarter by Shenandoah Valley ... Mahanoy Area, 21-12.MARIAN AT PIUS X (Roseto) - Colts come off a tough loss to Mahanoy and will be traveling to the No. 6 Class A team in the state in the Royals. Stan Dakosty told me last week as long as his team keeps winning when I pick against them, I should do it every week ... Pius X, 24-13.PALISADES AT NORTHERN LEHIGH - Biggest thing Joe Tout has to do now is keep his Bulldogs from getting too complacent. Another one in the "W" column.....Northern Lehigh, 47-0.NORTHWESTERN AT SOUTHERN LEHIGH - Spartans lost a tough one last week at Bangor and have another tough one this week in the Tigers, with their explosive offense. Northwestern is still unbeaten so we have to push the Tigers button again ... Northwestern, 27-21.SAUCON VALLEY AT PALMERTON - Bombers are 2-1 and keep living on the edge. Game against the Falcons should have been over earlier, but two TDs were nullified by penalties. This week, they face another winless team, but the Panthers are better than the Falcons ... Palmerton, 24-14.BANGOR AT NOTRE DAME - Two teams at opposite ends of the Colonial League spectrum ... Bangor, 27-0.SHENANDOAH VALLEY AT MINERSVILLE - I was impressed with the Blue Devils passing game last week, but was more impressed with the number the Battlin' Miners put on Schuylkill Haven ... Minersville, 24-18.PINE GROVE AT TRI-VALLEY - Another game here that doesn't seem to be much of a battle ... Pine Grove, 31-7.POCONO MOUNTAIN WEST AT EAST STROUDSBURG SOUTH - The Panthers will have a shot at battling the Cavaliers nose to nose in a while, but the Purple and White still win ... ES South, 28-24.STROUDSBURG AT POCONO MOUNTAIN EAST - The Mountaineers have all of a sudden become the team to beat in the MVC so they won't hold back in their league opener ... Stroudsburg, 21-0.FREEDOM AT EMMAUS - Patriots have been a tough team through the first three weeks. If the Hornets come back down to earth after last week's last second win over Parkland, they could get to celebrate again, but I like ... Freedom, 14-7.PARKLAND AT EASTON - Were the Trojans looking ahead to this week's meeting with the Red Rovers? I don't think so ... Easton, 21-7.WHITEHALL AT LIBERTY - My gut feeling here is to pick Liberty, but the crystal ball tells me Whitehall ... Whitehall, 23-14.
