Berks Co. teen drowning victim

An 18-year-old male from Lenhartsville, Berks County, died Sunday afternoon in the Tuscarora Lake at the Tuscarora State Park in Barnesville.

According to two of the victim's friends who were also at the park, Gicardo Jeanbaptiste went under the water at about 5:30 p.m. and never resurfaced.Stephen Zakrewsky of Mahanoy City was at the lake with his dog when he was approached by one of the victim's friends."He came running to me and said his friend was in the water and asked me to get help," Zakrewsky said.After calling 911, Zakrewsky went to the upper parking area to help emergency responders find to the location.Members of the Ryan Township EMS Rescue Squad Dive Team recovered the male's body from the lake shortly after they arrived.The victim was transported to St. Luke's Hospital in Coaldale where he was pronounced dead at 7:45 p.m.Rush Township Police stated the name will be released pending family notification.Rush Township Police, Frackville State Police, Ryan Township firefighters, Hometown firefighters, Tamaqua Rescue Squad, Rush Township fire police and other emergency personal also responded to the park.Ranger Chastity Rynard of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources was also on the scene gathering information.
