Tigers roll again

It was another prime time hit for CBS.

CBS as in Cunningham, Bachman and Snyder.Northwestern's star-studded line-up continues to put up numbers that are through the roof. The Tigers made Wilson their latest victim, rolling to a 48-14 Colonial League victory on Friday night. The lead role in Northwestern's performance last night belonged to Ty Cunningham. Cunningham carried the ball 17 times for 233 yards and three touchdown. For good measure he added a 19-yard touchdown pass. Cunningham had plenty of help from co-stars Payton Bachman and Ben Snyder. Bachman had 10 carries for 65 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for 65 yards and two more scores. Snyder added eight carries for 79 yards and a TD."They have some exceptional athletes in the backfield," said Wilson coach Brett Comp. "They all have tremendous balance and seem to run with a low center of gravity that makes them tough to bring down."They just exploded in the second half and imposed their will on us."Comp was referring to the fact that the Tigers scored on four of their first five second possessions to turn a nail-biter into a blowout.Leading 20-14 at halftime, the Tigers took the opening kickoff and marched 68 yards for the go-ahead score. Cunningham had two big runs in the drive, including a 23-yard burst for the score."Ty can do it all. He a great runner, he can throw the ball, he's a great weapon to have," said Northwestern coach Tom Linette. "With Ty, Ben and Payton we can make things tough on defenses. Ben did a nice job with our read option tonight and that allowed Ty and Payton to find some nice running room."Bachman scored the next Northwestern touchdown on a 13-yard run to make it 34-14 with 2:42 left in the third quarter. The Tigers' final TDs came on fourth quarter runs of 77 yards by Snyder and 72 yards by Cunningham."We thought we were just one block away from breaking some big runs in the first half," said Linette. "Our assistant coaches made a few tweaks in our blocking assignments at halftime and it produced some big plays."Northwestern has now scored over 40 points in all three of its victories this season."We knew we would have a good offense this year, but I didn't expect it to be this explosive," said Cunningham. "We have executed really well."The linemen are doing a great job blocking, the backs are hitting the holes, it's been a total team effort."Linette agreed with his star player."We have had success in every facet of the game," he said. "We have been able to pass and run the ball effectively on offense, our defense has played very well, and our special teams have been outstanding."It's been a nice to start to the season."It's a start that has produced blockbuster ratings so far.
