Northwestern's star-studded line-up continues to put up numbers that are through the roof.
The Tigers made Wilson their latest victim, rolling to a 48-14 Colonial League victory on Friday night.
The lead role in Northwestern's performance last night belonged to Ty Cunningham. Cunningham carried the ball 17 times for 233 yards and three touchdown. For good measure he added a 19-yard touchdown pass. Cunningham had plenty of help from co-stars Payton Bachman and Ben Snyder. Bachman had 10 carries for 65 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for 65 yards and two more scores. Snyder added eight carries for 79 yards and a TD.
"They have some exceptional athletes in the backfield," said Wilson coach Brett Comp. "They all have tremendous balance and seem to run with a low center of gravity that makes them tough to bring down.
"They just exploded in the second half and imposed their will on us."
Comp was referring to the fact that the Tigers scored on four of their first five second possessions to turn a nail-biter into a blowout.
Leading 20-14 at halftime, the Tigers took the opening kickoff and marched 68 yards for the go-ahead score. Cunningham had two big runs in the drive, including a 23-yard burst for the score.
"Ty can do it all. He a great runner, he can throw the ball, he's a great weapon to have," said Northwestern coach Tom Linette. "With Ty, Ben and Payton we can make things tough on defenses. Ben did a nice job with our read option tonight and that allowed Ty and Payton to find some nice running room."
