Adult Day Care

The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has a variety of activities planned for September, including the monthly birthday celebration on Sept. 19.

Other activities for the month will include: Sept. 6, craft day; Sept. 7, bingo; Sept. 13, musical entertainment with Audrey Christ; Sept. 14, visit with Skye the dog; Sept. 21, Salvation Army service; and Sept. 27, cooking class.

In addition to weekly sing-a-longs, exercise sessions, a variety of therapies and social games, the center provides for hairstyling and manicure service.

Both require advance notice. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are served daily.

YMCA news

The Tamaqua YMCA, located in the former Jamesway store at the east end of Tamaqua, is offering a Silver Sneakers fitness program.

Silver Sneakers is a nationwide program offering mature adults the opportunity to take better control of their health through physical activity and social events. Participants are provided with customized exercise programs, health education seminars, online support and other activities designed to promote a healthier lifestyle.

The "Y" is also accepting registrations for swim lessons and preschool classes.

Tabernacle service

The annual Lewistown Valley Tabernacle services began Aug. 26 and will continue through Labor Day evening. Evening services are held at 7 p.m. Services for this Sunday and Labor Day will be held at 10:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Special guests are Evangelist Leon Armstrong and song leaders Jeff and Jeanie Shelburne. Special music will be presented by the Wehry Family on Sept. 4 and Larry Moore on Labor Day, Sept. 5.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church.

Nursery care is provided. Sunday school promotions will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, Prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry will meet at 6:30 p.m.
