Saturday's snowy weather has been blamed for at least four crashes on Schuylkill County roadways, three along Interstate 81. State police at Frackville reported on the accidents.
Troopers investigated a crash about 11:20 a.m. along SR54 in Mahanoy Township. Troopers said Eric S. Pugh, 30, of Barnesville, was driving a 1997 Mercury Marquis westbound when he lost control. The Marquis entered the eastbound lane and into the path of a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck driven by Joseph J. Galada III, 36, of Lattimer Mines, Luzerne County. Galada attempted to avoid a collision but could not and the vehicles collided in the eastbound lane.
No one was injured. Troopers said the area of the road was closed while PennDOT was salting.
Troopers cited Pugh for driving under suspension and roadways laned for traffic.
The first crash on I81 occurred about 12:20 p.m. in Butler Township. Troopers said Peter Mangan, 68, of York, was northbound in a 2007 Buick Lucerne when he lost control on the snow-covered roady. The car went onto the berm and down an embankment where it impacted with a large drainage ditch.
Mangan and his passenger, Bonnie Mangan, 67, same adddress, both refused medical assistance, troopers added. Damages were termed heavy to the car.
The second crash occurred about 4:30 p.m. in Foster Township. Troopers said Dwayne Green, 27, of Lansford, was northbound in a 2006 Ford Econoline van in the right lane while James Judd, 59, of Unadilla, N.Y., was in the left lane driving a 2007 Subaru Impreza. Green lost control on the snow-covered road and the van spun counter-clockwise. The van entered the left lane directly in front of the Impreza and the vehicles collided.
Green, Judd and his passenger, Carolyn Anthony, 64, of Bowie, Md., were all not injured. Damages were minor to the rear end of the van and heavy to the front end of the Impreza.
The third crash was reported at 6:15 p.m. in Foster Township. Troopers said Matthew Arundel, 23, of Ashburn, Va., was driving a 2002 Acura RSX northbound when he lost control on the wet road. The car went onto the berm, hit a large rock embankment, and then overturned and came to rest on its roof.
Arundel sustained minor injuries but refused medical assistance. Damages were heavy to the car.
