Wintry weather usually reserved for Thanksgiving or later is predicted to happen Halloween weekend.

According to forecasters, several inches of snow could arrive tomorrow.The National Weather Service says 4-6 inches is possible in Carbon County (more in Kidder Township) and six to 10 inches is a likelihood in the Lehigh Valley.The weather could impact field hockey district playoff games for two local teams scheduled for tomorrow.Northern Lehigh has a noon game with Moravian Academy, and Lehighton is scheduled to play Southern Lehigh at 2 p.m., both at Emmaus.The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, N.J. says this is a coastal storm with the highest accumulations being in Berks County, the Lehigh Valley, and western New Jersey. A rain line will be south of the Lehigh Valley and Berks County.The State College office of the National Weather Service says 5-9 inches of snow are possible in Hometown.According to the NWS, there will be impaired travel. Trees, which still have leaves on them, will become loaded with wet snow and could have limbs break.There could be power outages, said the NWS.Wind will be at 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.Jesse Snyder, co-owner of Snyder Tire Inc. in Lehighton, said he normally doesn't order his inventory of snow tires until November.Fortunately, he got some of the most popular sizes in early this year.He said he has received numerous calls this morning to put snow or all-weather tires on today."The snow will come and go, and then people will forget about snow tires by next week," he said.Snyder said he has some customers who get their tires on early, but some wait until the forecast actually calls for the precipitation.Nicole Beckett, Lehighton borough manager, said she had called a winter maintenance meeting with the borough's workforce for next week before this weekend's prediction arrived."The snow's coming a little earlier than we anticipated," she said.Also, the borough is in the process of having a new salt shed constructed.Even though construction only recently began on the salt shed, Beckett assured that the borough has enough anti-skid materials on hand to get through tomorrow's weather system."We are preparing," Beckett said.Whatever snow falls shouldn't stick around too long.Daytime high temperatures on Sunday and Monday will be in the mid to upper 40s. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the daytime highs should be in the 50s.
