Two men and one woman have been arrested and charged with allegedly beating a Lansford resident, tying him up, and then stabbing him in the back several times, attempting to kill him.

The alleged assault happened inside the victim's home on Thursday night.Arraigned Friday morning before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek in Lansford were:• Kevin Marshal Brandwein, 24, of 115 E. Snyder Ave., Lansford.• Steve Allen Walck, 26, of 3 N. Walnut St., Lansford.• Jennifer Catherine Steigerwalt, 34, of 115 E. Snyder Ave., Lansford.They are accused of stabbing Christopher M. Herman, 27, of 115 E. Snyder Ave., Lansford. Steigerwalt and Brandwein allegedly lived with Herman.Although Steigerwalt and Herman were involved in a romantic relationship, according to court papers, she "was also romantically involved" with Brandwein.All three suspects were lodged in Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.All are charged with aggravated assault, criminal attempt, and four counts of criminal conspiracy.After being tied up, beaten, and then stabbed, Herman reportedly managed to break free and flee the residence.He was flown by MedEvac helicopter to Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest.Although his condition is not known, it was reported his injuries apparently are not life threatening.According to the affidavit, Steigerwalt asked Brandwein and Snyder to kill Herman in exchange for cocaine after Herman "threw Steigerwalt out of his residence."The affidavit says Steigerwalt went to Snyder's residence where she conversed with Snyder and Brandwein about killing Herman in exchange for the cocaine.The court record states:"Then on 10/20/11, at approximately 2225 hours (10:25 p.m.), Steigerwalt had managed to get Herman to allow her to return to their residence and sleep with him in his bed which is located in the living room. Steigerwalt ensured that the rear basement door was unlocked so (Brandwein and Walck) could gain entry to the residence. Steigerwalt then ensured Herman fell asleep."According to police, Brandwein and Walck entered through the unlocked basement door, wearing black surgical gloves provided by Steigerwalt. Brandwein beat Herman about the face and body with his fists, then shoved a sock in Herman's mouth and bound him with his hands and feet with a rope.The affidavit says Steigerwalt also provided the rope.It states, "Herman was then taken to the basement of the house where he was stabbed in the back by Brandwein and Walck four times before he was able to free himself and flee the residence."Just over a week ago, Brandwein had a hearing scheduled for charges that he assaulted Herman on Oct. 8 at his residence. Brandwein waived the hearing to Carbon County Court.At least two of the three defendants are presently on probation for unrelated criminal convictions. None are employed. All have children.Although the stabbing incident happened in Lansford, state police at Lehighton barracks were summoned to assist in the investigation.Trooper H. Christopher Bonin, a criminal investigator, is the arresting officer.At the arraignment, Steigerwalt at one point got onto her knees and began crying.Walck appeared at the arraignment barefoot.Steigerwalt said she has been living with Herman for about two months. Before that she lived in Lehighton.She has two children, ages 14 and 15.When Kosciolek asked if she had prior convictions, she responded, "Where do you want me to start?"She said she has past convictions on burglary and theft charges and is presently on probation.Brandwein said he got out of state prison a year ago. He had been presently free on $10,000 unsecured bail for the Oct. 8 assault on Herman.He said of prior convictions, that this is "only the third time as an adult."Among his prior convictions were aggravated assault on a juvenile probation officer.He said he has one child, age 7.Walck, who has one child, age 2, said about eight years ago he was convicted on arson.He said he is presently on probation.Kosciolek scheduled preliminary hearings for 1 p.m. on Oct. 26 in his office.
