A free children's' trick or treat party will be held by Lansford Alive's Community Improvement Committee from 5-7 p.m. on Oct. 22.
Registration for children in costume will be from 3-4:45 p.m. the day of the event at the Lansford Community Center. Judging will begin promptly at 5 p.m.
Regretfully, the committee for the Panther Valley Pumpkin Parade and free Children's Trick-or-Treat Party had to cancel the parade portion of this year's event. The parade occupies the entire surroundings of the Panther Valley Stadium for approximately five hours and with the current activities held within the stadium throughout the season. For the sake of safety to area residents and visitors, it was decided to not hold the parade in the same vicinity. Hopefully, the tradition can continue in 2012.
To keep the spirit of the season alive for the children of Panther Valley, the committee's request to move forward with the free children's Trick-or-Treat Party was granted by Lansford Borough Council.
Although there will be no parade, the committee had added more activities to enhance the party, including a children's costume contest. Children do not need to be present to register. However, judging will take place on Ridge Street promptly at 5 p.m., which will start the event's festivities.
Trophies will be awarded for the most original, unique, prettiest, ugliest, scariest, and funniest costumes. As in keeping with the previous year's free event, hayrides, pumpkin decorating, music, games, and candy will be a part of the festivities.
Rain date is Oct. 23.
