D&L Heritage Marathon and Half-Marathon slated

Volunteers are needed to assist at the first D&L Heritage Marathon and Half-Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 23. This is an exciting new event on the D&L Trial and more volunteers that are needed to make this huge event run smoothly. Although there are more than 50 volunteers already committed to helping with the event, they still need 36-38 more people. This is a large event that requires a lot of help. 450 runners are registered so far and 500 are expected to take part in race day. There are five 'water stops' along the race route that still need staffing (a total of 18 people are needed) and they also need 18 course Marshals whose job it will be to make sure runners don't make wrong turns on the course and the public doesn't stray onto the course while the race is under way. They also need two people to help at the finish line area. All volunteers receive a T-shirt and a post-race meal prepared by Chef Ed Petrocelli who prepares wonderful food. The course is a Boston Marathon qualifier and runs between Northampton Borough and East Penn Township in Carbon County. It's close to home. The proceeds from the event are slated to raise money for trail maintenance. Scout troops, organizations, committees, church groups, businesses, companies, athletic groups at school, or any other organizations that would like to work together to organize one of the needed water stops along the race route should sign up right away.
