Pennsylvania Game Commission executive director Carl Roe announced that 53 of the 57 licensed elk hunters were successful during the 2011 elk seasons. Of that total, 19 were antlered elk and 34 were antlerless elk.

Taking the heaviest antlered elk was Bill Zee of Doylestown, whose bull had an estimated live weight of 930 pounds and a 9x8 rack. He took the bull, Tuesday, Nov. 1, in Clearfield County, and its unofficial Boone & Crockett green score of 426 and five-eighths inches will rank it No. 2 for non-typical Pennsylvania elk if the score holds up after the required 60-day drying time.Other high-scoring antlered elk and the estimated live weights are: Jesse Heiple, Somerset, 772-pound, 8x7, November 1, Elk County, 399 green score; Ken Kastely, Carroll, Ohio, 780-pound, 9x9, November 1, Clearfield County, 386 and five-eighths inches; and Calvin Wallace, Kylertown, Clearfield County, 711-pound, 6x7, October 31, Elk County.Garry Foreman, Hershey, took the heaviest cow elk. He shot the 601-pound elk November 5 in Elk County.Mike McGinnis, Lyndhurst, Va., who was the successful bidder for the Elk Conservation Tag during the Safari Club International's national conference earlier this year, took an antlered elk.
