Beaver Meadows chief sues borough over benefits

The police chief of Beaver Meadows has filed a civil suit against the borough claiming the municipality has not provided the benefits he is entitled to in his employment contract.

Michael Morresi filed the action in Carbon County court against the borough seeking damages in excess of $50,000 plus costs and interest.The suit states on May 3, 2010, Morresi and the borough entered into a contract in which he agreed to perform the duties of police chief for the borough. In exchange the borough agreed to provide Morresi with specific terms and conditions of employment which are detailed in the suit.The chief claims the borough has failed to live up to its part of the employment agreement, which is attached to the suit.The suit claims since May 3, 2010, to the present Morresi has performed all the duties specified in the contract.Morresi claims the following:The borough has failed to provide health insurance from Blue Cross/Blue Shield including vision and dental converage; failed to provide a pension plan as provided in the contract; failed to provide benefits such as vacations, sicke leave, personal days, disability income, holidays, uniform allowance among other things.Morresi alleges breach of contract and claims he will incur future damages for the loss of compensation and benefits as set forth in the contract.The action was filed by Atty. Todd Eagen of Harrisburg.
