A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of hit-and-run following a crash in Schuylkill County. It is one of three crashes investigated by state police at Schuylkill Haven on county roads.
Troopers said Stephen Wetzel, 40, of Pine Grove, was driving an 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit northbound on Hetzels Church Road at Martins Road, in Washington Township, about 6:46 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4. Wetzel lost control of the vehicle, went off the road and struck a tree.
After impact with the tree Wetzel left the scene without reporting the accident. He will be charged, troopers said.
Troopers investigated a crash about 12:36 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, along SR895 (Market St.), in Auburn.
Troopers said Brandon J. Smith, 23, of Pottsville, was driving a 2008 Dodge Charger westbound and approaching the intersection with Seventh Street when a deer entered the road in front of him. Smith was unable to avoid the animal and struck it with the front end of his car. After impact the car traveled another 200 feet before Smith was able to pull off the road.
Smith and his passenger, Angel A. Pohronezny, 24, of Pottsville, were not injured.
A one-vehicle crash was reported about 12:10 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, along SR183 (Chestnut St.), in Cressona.
Troopers said Shawn D. Hunter, 36, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 1998 Chrysler Cirrus northbound when, for unknown reasons, he veered to the right, went onto the berm and up an embankment where the car struck a tree and rolled over.
The vehicle came to rest in the northbound lane on its roof facing north.
Hunter was taken to a nearby landing zone and flown by Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for treatment of what troopers called moderate injuries.
Troopers said Hunter was cited for traveling on roadways for traffic and restraint systems.
