Weissport Council members studied old ordinances and realized that many need updating.

The search through the old ordinance books was prompted by Dawson Beers, a resident of White Street, who wanted to know if there was a dog ordinance that covered a dog barking inside a multiple unit building. Beers made the request at the regular meeting of Weissport Council on Monday night.Beers also questioned whether bicyclists had the right to ride a bike on sidewalks.Council members did find an old ordinance that saw it was unlawful to ride bikes on the sidewalks and continued the search for the dog ordinance.Council has been discussing updating borough ordinances for several years.Council President Tim Rehrig noted that hopefully council will have complete answers for his questions at the next meeting at 7 p.m. June 6.Council did note that there is a handicapped ordinance that provides for a $2 to $25 fine for people parking in a handicapped area that do not have a handicapped license plate or placard.Council approved a $600 estimate to make road repairs, plus approved the purchase of a 14-inch saw and a compactor for borough workers to use to make the repairs.Council tabled the draft of the maintenance ordinance and police standard operating procedure to give members more time to review the documents.The board also discussed hiring a tree service to remove trees along the levee and to purchase more signs within the borough. Council also discussed contracting for a handicapped portable potty for the playground area.Council also put a used 1997 Ford F-350 dump truck out for bid. The truck is for sale in an "as is" condition. Bids are to be opened at 7 p.m. at the June 6 meeting.
