Following an executive session to deal with litigation and personnel matters, the Panther Valley school board conducted several other items of business during its regular meeting.

Anthony DeMarco was unanimously reappointed to a term as board treasurer, effective July 1, 2011.

The board approved a list of teachers and substitutes to cover the summer programs, including pre-kindergarten and extended school year. The board also approved several faculty members for summer achievement school.

Director Koreen Nalesnik requested that the board review how much students were paying to take summer school courses.

"We're paying to educate these students and now we're paying again, at minimal cost to the student," she said. Nalesnik indicated that perhaps if students were charged more to make up the work, they would have more incentive to do the work and pass the first time.

Brenda Chasarik was added to the list of substitute teachers, effective immediately at the current rate of $8.90 per hour. Georgine Wetzel was appointed as a three-hour general worker/floater at the middle school, effective for the 2011-12 school year at the rate of $13.10 per hour. Cathy Raabe was appointed as a four-hour general worker/floater at the elementary school, effective for the 2011-12 school year at the rate of $13.10 per hour.

Margie Arner, Melanie Gilber, and Dave Haninchick were approved as substitute cafeteria workers for the 2011-12 school year at the rate of $7.80 per hour.

The board approved the purchase of Panther Valley blankets at a cost of $23.50 each to be given to eligible seniors in recognition of their participation in cocurricular activities. The board approved the award of $1,000 to the valedictorian and $500 to the salutatorian of the class of 2011.

The board approved the expulsion and suspension of an eighth-grade student for a violation of the district's possession of weapons policy.

The board also approved the collective bargaining agreement between the district and Local Union No. 773, custodians and secretaries from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012.

Graduation will be held on June 9 at 7 p.m. at the stadium.
