At Monday night's monthly Borough Council Meeting, Pete Papay and Jason Breidinger approached the Slatington Council with a request for the Lions Club (a member of the Venture Group) to open a food concession on the Trailhead lot to raise funds for the Venture Group. The concession would only be open during the week to ensure volunteers would not have to give up their weekends. Steve Walden, who has experience as a food vendor, volunteered to operate the concession for two or three months, as a pilot, to see if it could generate funds for the organization. Breidinger added that this is a "dry run." "We are taking a risk; it could or could not work." However, the Lions Club is willing to donate their time to see if the concession will be a successful endeavor. The plan is to execute the concession within 3 weeks. The Council agreed to the plan.

Councilman Daniel Stevens gave a department of Conservation and National Resources (DCNR) grant update. The Human/community Services Committee was able to submit a new grant for funding for the Slatington Memorial Park, and they also received $4,000 owed to the Borough by the State.Resident Les Glanz, speaking on behalf of Future Focus, told the Council that First Niagara gave the group $5,000 to continue the landscaping at Slatington's Memorial Park. Glanz asked for permission to move ahead on the planting. A permanent fixture will be placed in the park, crediting First Niagara. The Council moved to approve the request.Because of flooding problems in the Oakhurst areas of Slatington, a letter was sent to residents in that area asking them to allow inspections of their private laterals. Despite some resistance from residents, the inspection process will continue. Inspections are currently limited to one area of the Borough, the Maple Hills, Oakhurst section, but it could include the entire Borough at some point in the future.In an effort to help residents who experienced flooding in their basements and cellars, the Borough replaced laterals in the driveway of Chad Trego. He thanked everyone for, what appears to be, a good job. Trego said that he'll know how well it will work after another hard rainfall.
