Tamaqua surprised Lehighton in baseball and Northern Lehigh's baseball and softball teams recorded important victories to highlight Friday's scholastic sports action.
The Raiders held off a late Lehighton rally for a 12-10 non-league victory.
Tamaqua scored three in the sixth and two in the seventh to take a 12-7 lead, only to see the Indians come back with three in the bottom of the inning to fall just short.
Michael Streisel was two-for-three with one RBI and three runs scored for the Raiders (8-9). Matt Roberts was two for three with one RBI and one run scored. Ryan Palsgrove also chipped in going two-for-five with two RBI and two runs scored.
Jacen Nalesnik had three hits, drove in four runs, hit a homer in the second and scored a run for the Indians (11-3).
Tyler Harris added two hits and two RBI and A.J. Wenrich had two hits, a run scored and one RBI.

A five-run second inning lifted Northern Lehigh to a 7-3 win over Pen Argyl in a battle for the Colonial League North Division lead.
Both teams entered the game with identical 11-2 league records. The Bulldogs' victory gives them the inside track to earning the top seed for the Colonial League playoffs.
Jake Kern tossed a complete-game six-hitter, striking out three and walking none to earn the pitching victory
Northern Lehigh (13-3 overall, 12-2 league) was led offensively by Trevor Yashur who had three hits, a stolen base, and an RBI. Chad Mazepa added a pair of doubles and an RBI; Eric Snyder had a double and three RBIs; and Kern chipped in an RBI double.

Northern Lehigh got a huge win in its bid to qualify for the District 11 and Colonial League playoffs.
The Bulldogs (9-7 overall, 8-6 league) guaranteed themselves no worse than a .500 league record with the victory and in the process secured a district playoff berth. In addition, they stayed within one game of Catasauqua and Notre Dame of Green Pond in a three-team battle for the final playoff spot in the Colonial League.
Trailing 6-4 heading into the home fifth, the Bulldogs erupted for six runs to take control. Kristie Seiler's RBI triple was the big hit in the inning.
Amber Kibbler had two hits and scored a pair of runs for No. Lehigh. Payton Marunich had two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Tamara Stubits had two hits and knocked in a run.

Hannah Bernier scored the winning goal off a Kayla Dorney assist with 5:18 left in the second overtime to give the Bears a 2-1 win over the Mountaineers in a MVC contest.

Sarah Elmonticir had four saves in goal for the Bears (14-3, 11-1). Ashley Ward had seven saves in goal for the Mounts (11-4-1, 8-3-1).
Jim Thorpe dropped a 3-2 decision to Freeland MMI in its regular season finale.
Mitch Franko got one win at No. 1 singles for the Olympians while the doubles team of Tom Smyth and Kyle Lawrence also were victorious.
Jim Thorpe finished the season with a 3-11 record.
