A clothing drive held Saturday by the Storm team of the Northwestern All Star Cheer Association (NACA) at Tumble with Denise Gym, 961 Oak Drive Road, Lehighton, brought more in donations than they ever anticipated.
"We've asked all the cheerleaders to bring their good used clothing and everyone wanted to donate," said Lora Huerst, team coordinator. "The clothing will be sorted and sent to areas who need clothing," said Huerst. "Some of the clothing will be sent to Haiti and some will be sent to Japan to help those victims of the tsunami."
Huerst said that instead of holding the clothing drive for just a day, the drive was extended to a month because of the everyone wanted to help.
Huerst said that the coaches have opened up their homes to serve as a holding area for the donations.
They also collected shoes, belts and handbags, bedding, towels and comforters, stuffed and hard toys.
Registrations for 2011/2012 season will be held 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday June 11 at Tumble with Denise Gym.
