A Carbon County man admitted in the county court on Thursday to possession child pornography.

Adam James Barnes, 20, of Wild Creek Drive, Penn Forest Township, Jim Thorpe, pleaded guilty before Senior Judge Richard W. Webb to 10 counts of child pornography and one count of criminal use of a communication facility, all felony threes.

Barnes admitted having in his possession 141 photos of child pornography and 45 movies of child pornography. He was originally charged with 188 criminal counts.

The charge falls under the provisions of Megan's Law. Webb accepted the plea but deferred sentencing ordering a presentence investigation (PSI) be prepared by the adult probation office. Barnes must also under a Sexual Offenders Assessment Board evaluation to determine if he is a violent sexual predator.

Barnes was arrested by state police following an investigation by a special unit of the state police which monitors the internet for sexual predators.

Troopers said Barnes went on a chat room and seeking other persons who had child pornography and seeking to exchange materials he had with others. He made contact with a person he thought had such materials, but who was actually a state trooper. This occurred in January of 2010.

After several contacts troopers were able to identify Barnes' internet site and traced his address. Armed with a search warrant troopers went to the Barnes' residence and seized his computer system. Found were the 141 photos and 45 movies of child pornography.
