If you have wanted to know more about Classical Music but were afraid to ask, you may be interested in attending the not-for-credit course being offered at LCCC's Morgan Center in Tamaqua.
The dates of the programs are March 23, 30 and April 6, all Wednesdays, from 7-9 p.m.
The Music Appreciation Series will examine the life and times of Johann Sebastian Bach on the 23rd, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on 30th and Ludwig van Beethoven on April 6.
Each program will feature numerous musical examples of the works of these masters plus commentary on each piece and anecdotes about the composer or the circumstances behind the music.
The instructor for the course is Barry Gangwer, a life-long classical music enthusiast and a member of the Lehighton Band and Zion Opera Workshop Orchestra specializing in oboe, and English horn.
All of the musical examples are drawn from his personal music library of over 4,000 recordings. He has given over 30 various music programs for the Weatherly Library, churches and the Tamaqua Spirit of Christmas.
The presentations are ideal to become acquainted with the music of these three masters.
The music will consist of traditional and some not-so traditional performances and will be entertaining as well as informative. Class members will receive handouts and information about the recordings.
