National Nutrition month will be celebrated this month at the Panther Valley Senior Center.

On March 3 is penny game at 11 a.m. and March 4 is Deal or No Deal at 11 a.m.

March 7 is candy bingo at 11 a.m.; March 8 is celebration of Mardi Gras at 11 a.m.; March 9 is bean bags and darts; March 10 is blood pressure screenings from 10:30-11:30 a.m.; March 11 is Wii bowling.

Summit Hill

Cat licensing

Summit Hill Borough officials remind residents the borough has a cat ordinance that requires owners of cats to obtain a license for the pet.

The fee is $5, which includes $4 for the license and $1 for registration and the registration tag.

Any person who presents a certificate signed by a licensed veterinarian stating the cat has been spayed or neutered is entitled to a reduction of $2 off the license fee for each annual renewal.

The licenses are available at the office of borough secretary Kira Michalik during regular business hours.

Scripture sharing

The weekly scripture sharing sessions sponsored by St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will be held Thursday, March 3, at 7 p.m. in the parish rectory.

Choir rehearsals

Bob Ames, choir director for St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, has announced the schedule of upcoming rehearsals as follows: Thursday, March 3, and Wednesday, March 9, following the Ash Wednesday Mass.

The rehearsals are in anticipation of the upcoming Confirmation Mass to be held in the church on Tuesday, March 15, at 4:30 p.m. with His Excellency, Bishop John Barres, presiding.

Coaldale

GOP to meet

The Coaldale Republican Party will hold a meeting tonight at 7 o'clock in the West Ward Rod & Gun Club. Bob Ames, president, will be in charge of the session.

Primary Election information will be reviewed. The last day to file nominating petitions is Tuesday, March 8, at the county election bureau in Pottsville.

County controller candidates Christy Joy and Eric Hollen are the invited guests for the meeting.

Lansford

Parents' meeting

A meeting for parents of children who will receive the sacrament of Holy Communion this year at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, will be held on Saturday, March 5, at 9:30 a.m. in the social hall of the church. This includes families of students of Our Lady of the Angels Academy and those enrolled in the CCD program.

Informal worship

At 7 o'clock this evening St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, will hold an informal worship: a spiritual, peaceful evening service with Holy Communion. All are welcome to this relaxed, brief evening prayer.

For those who wish to come early, a simple supper is served at 6 p.m., followed by a brief adult Bible study and children's program at 6:30 p.m.

Conservation club

The Nesquehoning Conservation Club will meet on Wednesday, March 2 at 6:30 p.m. at MapleShade Meadows Assisted Living Center. The spring fishing derby will be discussed. Dues are now payable at this meeting.

Lions to meet

The Coaldale Lions Club will meet on Tuesday, March 8 and Tuesday, March 22 at the Viennese Villa in town. Both meetings will start at 5:45 p.m. At the March 22 meeting, state Rep. Jerry Knowles will be a guest.
