A Monroe County driver is facing charges of driving under the influence (DUI) and drug possession following an incident that occurred about 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, along Echo Lake Road in Coolbaugh Township.

Pocono Mountain Regional police were on patrol at the time and date stated when they conducted a traffic stop for motor vehicle code violations. The driver was identified as Jamal Thomas, 35, of Tobyhanna.As officers approached the vehicle they detected the odor of marijuana and alcoholic beverages coming from inside. A search of Thomas revealed marijuana and prescription medication not prescribed to him.Thomas was taken into custody and transported to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for a blood test. His vehicle was impounded and taken to police headquarters. A search warrant was secured for the vehicle.The charges are pending the blood tests results and the results of the search.
