Alexander Sommers Jr., 46, of 126 E. White St., Summit Hill, faces charges from an incident that happened at 9:10 p.m. May 17 on West Patterson Street. Charges of dispensing a controlled substance without a label and driving under suspension were filed by Lansford Officer Joshua Tom.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, here's what happened:While on patrol, Tom saw Sommers driving and knew his license had been suspended. Tom stopped the car on Route 902 (south Springgarden Street) and told Sommers why he had been stopped. When Tom asked Sommers for his registration, license and insurance information, Sommers told Tom he had left his license at home, but assured the officer that it was valid.Tom checked Sommers' information the Carbon County Communications Center, which informed him that the license was still under suspension.Lansford officer Brian Horos, who was assisting Tom with the stop, asked Sommers to exit his car. upon speaking with Sommers about the car, the officers noticed that he became very nervous, and at one point made a move toward the passenger side of the car.Horos yelled for him to come back to the rear of the car, and Sommers became uncooperative.The officers handcuffed Sommers for their own safety. They asked Sommers for permission to search him, which he granted. Horos found a clear plastic bag filled with unlabelled pills in Sommers' right front shorts pocket. The pills were identified as Tramadol and hydrocodone, both narcotic painkillers.Sommers was arrested, taken back to the police station and read his rights. He refused to give any statements and was released.
