Western Pocono Lions Club recently packaged its used eyeglass collection totaling about 2,400 pairs. These glasses were taken to Lion Bob Hayman, Lehighton, White Cane Chairman for District 14U Lions. Those glasses are but a portion of the 24,000-25,000 pair collected by the district annually, he says. They all are collected in Mahoning Township and then he takes those in plastic frames to Eyeland, where lenses and frames are sterilized for further travels anywhere around the world, including the USA, helping those who need a particular prescription. The metal-framed glasses go to Buffalo where the metal is recycled adding more service to the whole process. Anyone needing information as to how to get used glasses to the Western Pocono Lions Club can contact Western Pocono Lions Club president, Charles Rush at (610) 381- 3759 or PDG Bob Argot at (570) 629-5718.
