In addition to their Fourth of July parade and daylong of events, Port Carbon was lit up Monday night as thousands of spectators watched the night sky dazzle above them with a first-ever fireworks show held as part of Port Carbon's 64th Annual Fourth of July Celebration.

Before the fireworks were set off, a patriotic ceremony began with a series of performances recorded by local participants for the patriotic event, including the Pledge of Allegiance recited by students from the Little Sunshine Daycare, Port Carbon; followed by the national anthem, performed by the Sounds of Heaven quartet from St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Port Carbon; and finally the fireworks show, which was set to music.

The fireworks were set off high above Port Carbon from Monument Hill as to provide a view for spectators viewing from all over the borough and in adjacent communities.

Members of the Port Carbon Citizens Committee gave appreciations to dozens of community sponsors that came together this year to make this a one-of-a-kind event.
