Penn State Cooperative Extension and the Master Gardeners are hosting a summer trial garden tour and program for home gardeners from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, at Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville.

The program will begin with a tour of the PSU Pollinator Garden. The garden celebrates pollinating insects such as bees and butterflies.

For 2011, the group has made major changes with many new perennials, shrubs and annuals. The additional thematic elements include deer and rabbit resistant and native plants. This is an educational field experience in an easy-access setting, where you will learn what attracts pollinators, resists deer/rabbits and what plants are native in the region.

Workshop programs include: "Cultivating Biennials and Perennials," "Roses and Rose Care," "Poison Ivy, Sumac and Oak" and "Shade Gardening and Invasive Species."

There is a fee. Refreshments will be provided, but lunch is on your own. Pre-registration is required and is limited to room capacity.
