Children are left home unattended

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks said they were summoned at 2:15 p.m. June 28 to a home in Indian Mountain Lakes, Albrightsville, Penn Forest Township, after it was discovered a 4-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy were left home unattended.

Police termed the case "endangering the welfare of children" and said the children left their residence together after being left alone and walked to Twin Lake in the development.Police said the youths were located walking around the lake and playing in the area unsupervised. After being located by security guards from the development, they were returned to their home, at which time it was learned the children were left unattended.Police said the children were taken into protective custody by the Carbon County Office of Children and Youth Services. Meanwhile, police said the investigation will continue until it can be determined who left the children home alone.
