A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed in an accident in Lehigh County. State police at Fogelsville said the incident occurred about 9:50 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, along SR222 bypass northbound at Krocks Rd., in Lower Macungie Township.

Troopers said Pia Thiel-Ruhf, 57, of Trexlertown, was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, after the accident. She died their about 2:10 p.m. on Sunday.According to troopers Thiel-Ruhf was wearing dark clothing and walking south through the intersection outside of the cross walk and against the red light. John Toman Jr., of Allentown, driving a 2005 Dodge Journey mini van northbound in the right lane. As Toman entered the intersection and observed a person walking on the road directly in front of his vehicle. He swerved to the left to avoid the person but the right front side mirror of the van struck Thiel-Ruhf.After impact the pedestrian fell to the ground and came to rest in the middle of the right lane.Toman and his passenger, Stacy Toman, were not injured.Troopers are asking anyone who might have witnessed this incident to call them at (610) 395-1438.
