It was a long, unsettled week for the Palmerton boys basketball team.

With its head coach Mike Snyder being suspended indefinitely on Monday, the team didn't get to practice until yesterday when JV and varsity assistant Mark Maholick was appointed interim coach.The Bombers (5-5, 3-3) fell behind by 13 points in the first quarter, cut it to single digits a couple of times, but suffered a 55-40 Colonial League loss to Wilson."We had to get back on the court," said Maholick afterwards. "it was a tough team to get back on it against. They're a very athletic team."Our kids did a good job. They worked hard. They're a very unselfish group of kids. They were put in this position and hard work pays off. There's room for growth and I'm sure there's going to be a lot of growth."Wilson's Kuwan Scott was just too tough for the Bombers to contend with inside. He finished with a game-high 23 points that included a one-handed dunk in the fourth quarter and had 10 points in the first quarter when the Warriors jumped out to a 22-9 lead.The Bombers trailed 8-7 with 3:48 left in the opening quarter, but the Warriors outscored them 14-2 the rest of the way.Palmerton cut it to eight in the second stanza and trailed by nine at intermission thanks to a couple of three-pointers by Ben Andrews and a pair of baskets in close by Cody Geist.All the Bombers could muster in the third quarter, however, was a pair of treys by Brett Snyder. Entering the final eight minutes, they still only trailed 37-25.Scott had seven of the Warriors 18 points in the fourth quarter, while Geist had five of the Bombers 15 points.Snyder finished as the lone Bomber in double figures with 11, while Geist added nine and Andrews eight.Wilson head coach Bob Frankenfield said afterwards that he wasn't sure what to expect coming into the game."I told my players that the young men for Palmerton love Coach Snyder. "I told them last night that if the situation were reversed, that they would want to do me proud and you would want to play as hard as you can and play the best you have all year."I was extremely nervous before the game because that's what I feared. They have great shooters in (Brett) Snyder and (Ben) Andrews. We told our players that the two can shoot off of stationery dribbles and every time they caught it, they buried it and made us pay. Their kids played hard.""It's all about the kids, that's why I'm here," said Maholick afterwards. "none of this means anything to me, as far as the position or anything like that.
