A public meeting has been scheduled by the Schuylkill County Commissioners for Wednesday, Jan. 26, at 9 a.m. in the commissioners' board room at the courthouse in Pottsville to give municipalities a final appeal for approval of the application for funds submitted for projects in their boroughs and townships.
The county had received 23 applications and the total cost of the projects comes to $1,127,985.85. However, the county has only $440,100 in funds for distribution for the 2011 projects from its Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. After the public meeting the commissioners will hold their regular meeting and vote on the projects they will fund.
The applications received from municipalities in this area include:
Ÿ Coaldale Borough, for improvement of Moser Avenue from Fourth to Fifth streets, which served 36 homes; total cost estimated, $44,000; requesting $38,000 CDBG fund and $6,000 coming from the borough's general fund. The borough is 57.2 percent low-moderate income.
Ÿ Delano Township, for playground resurfacing at two parks which it estimates will cost $10,000, is seeking $10,000 from the CDBG fund.
Ÿ McAdoo Borough, for construction of a salt shed to benefit the entire borough, which is estimated to cost $66,665; it is requesting $54,840 from the CDBG funds with $12,825 coming from its general fund.
