If being chosen to perform at District Band was the icing on the cake, then being able to play her clarinet at Region Band should no doubt be the cherry on top.
It's no wonder, then, that Northern Lehigh High School senior Logan Thomson can't quite seem to get the sweet, succulent taste of success out of her mouth just yet.
For the third straight year, Thomson will represent Northern Lehigh at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Region 5 Band Festival March 24-26 at North Schuylkill High School.
The festival concerts will take place March 25 in the evening and March 26 in the afternoon. The host director for the Region festival is Matthew Tenaglia, while the Guest Conductor is Dr. Andrew Yozivak, Marching Band Director of West Chester University.
Earlier this month, Thomson participated in the PMEA District 10 Band after she was selected through audition to play in the District Level Festival at Tulpehocken High School.
The host director for the District festival this year was Dustin Shirk, while the guest conductor was Dr. Willis M. Rapp of Kutztown University.
Thomson, who said her goal was to make districts, admitted she was "shocked" to make the region festival."
"I'm really glad that I have," Thomson said. "It feels like a really good accomplishment."
Thomson said she plans to soak in the experience for all it's worth.
"It feels really amazing, because they're all really good musicians," she said. "Getting to play in a band [like that] isn't something you get to usually experience."
David Carroll, high school band director, concurred with Thomson's sentiment.
"I expected her to make districts this year with a good audition," Carroll said. "It is rare in our school history to have a student qualify for three years, in part because of our school size, and in part because District 10 is the third largest district in the state."
That Thomson made the Region 5 Band Festival is an added bonus, according to Carroll.
"We're both really pleased she made the Regional festival," he said. "It's rewarding, and it's good for her as a senior."
Thomson, who resides in Walnutport, is a member of the Northern Lehigh Jazz Band, Northern Lehigh Percussion Ensemble, Northern Lehigh Pit Orchestra, Concert Band,
