Lansford police have charged Lorraine Kofchock, 60, of 340 W. Snyder Ave., Lansford, with two counts of driving under the influence (DUI) and careless driving as a result of an incident which took place on July 27, 2010, at 9:48 p.m. on the 300 block of West Snyder Avenue. According to an affidavit of probable cause filed with District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford, here's what happened:

Officer Robert Shubeck was dispatched to 342 W. Snyder Ave. for a non-reportable accident involving the caller's neighbor being drunk and hitting her parked car.When Shubeck and Det./Sgt. Jack Soberick arrived, two women were standing near the vehicles. The complaintant, Jessica Sorrentino, pointed out the damage to her vehicle, a silver Plymouth Neon. The damage was limited to the front end and hood being buckled and bent inward.The car is owned by Sorrentino's boyfriend, David Hettler. It was legally parked and unoccupied at the time of the collision. Shubeck determined that the striking vehicle, a gray Chevrolet Tracker. driven by Kofchock, had not only hit Sorrentino's car but also had hit her house, chipping off a small chunk of brick face.Sorrentino told police she had heard the car hit the house, and looked out to see that the Tracker was also into her car. She said Kofchock then pulled forward to park her car on the sidewalk.Shubeck asked Kofchock what happened, and she said she was driving the Tracker and had backed into Sorrentino's car. Shubeck noted that she stumbled along the sidewalk as she went to retrieve her documents from the Tracker.While talking with Kofchock, Shubeck noticed her eyes were watery and glassy and that her speech was slurred. He smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage about her, but she denied having been drinking.He asked her to take field sobriety tests, and again asked her if she had been drinking. This time she admitted to having had two glasses of wine. Kofchock failed the field sobriety tests because she was unable to follow simple instructions and had problems with balance and coordination. Shubeck stopped the tests after she almost fell over.He arrested Kofchock and took her to St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, for blood alcohol tests. The tests showed a blood-alcohol content of 0.35 percent. The threshold for drunken driving is 0.08 percent.
