Dog licenses

Schuylkill County Treasurer Jackie McGovern reminds residents that 2011 dog licenses are now available. Dogs 3 months of age or older must be licensed.

Licenses may be obtained at the county courthouse in Pottsville, by mail or at a variety of licensing agents. Locally, those agents include AAA at 202 E. Broad St.; Tom's Auto and Marine, Greenwood Street and Mountain Avenue; and Koch's Farm Service in the Lewistown Valley.

For more information, call McGovern's office at (570) 628-1433.

School records

The Tamaqua Area School District destroys the records of special education students seven years after a student graduates, moves out of the district or drops out of school. Parents/guardians who would like copies of their child's records may make arrangements by calling (570) 668-2566. Copy fees will be charged, at 25 cents per single side page. A compete notice is posted on the TASD website at [1]

Snow rules

With the possibility of winter weather lurking every week, Tamaqua residents are reminded of borough rules concerning sidewalks.

Property owners are required to maintain a clear path, at least three feet wide, on sidewalks. Snow and/or ice must be removed from these pathways within 24 hours of the end of a snowstorm.

Snow, ice and other materials may not be thrown into the streets. Fines may be imposed on anyone caught throwing snow or ice into the street or who fails to maintain a snow-free pathway.

In addition, individuals who plow snow from in front of homes and businesses must REMOVE any piles of snow they create. Anyone piling snow in the street/parking areas could be cited.

Residents are also to refrain from piling snow near fire hydrants or on top of storm drains.

Further information is available by calling (570) 668-3444 or (570) 668-0300.
