Monroe County Emergency Management needs volunteers

Monroe County Emergency Management Emergency Operations Center is looking for unpaid volunteers to staff the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during emergency activations. It will be holding an Information Night on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Monroe County Public Safety Center at 100 Gypsum Road, Stroudsburg.

Are you a trained first responder, looking to gain knowledge in another aspect of Emergency Operations? Have you wanted to put your professional skills, such as financial or procurement, to use during large scale emergencies, but were not sure how to get involved? Now is your chance. An EOC volunteer will staff one of 15 Emergency Support Function (ESF) positions, based on the volunteer's background experience and interest.During a full activation of the EOC, the ESF helps coordinate the response and recovery stages of the disaster. These ESF positions cover the broad needs of the disaster including communications, fire fighting, energy and long-term community recovery. These varied positions require different skills and experiences. During the Information Night, you will be given a more in depth description of the 15 ESF's that are used in the EOC, and what skills are required of each position.Training for EOC volunteers is broken into a two-part series, the first part being the Information Night. Once a volunteer has completed this session and expressed interest in continuing in the training process, they can be assigned to one of several positions in the EOC. This assignment will be based on the precious knowledge and experience of the individual. Following a position assignment, further training will be offered. If this interests you, and you would like to know more, please come to the Information Night.
