A Tamaqua woman was cited by police last Monday after she was found walking along SR209 in a highly intoxicated state.

Tamaqua police were dispatched to the roadway at 8:32 p.m. for a reported pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the vicinity of the former Jamesway Plaza. On scene they found Roxanne Counterman, 38, of 115 Coal St., being propped up against the guide rail by a younger woman.

Counterman had not been struck by a vehicle but had exited a car driven by the younger woman and was refusing to get back inside insisting she wanted to walk.

She was highly intoxicated and uncooperative, refusing assistance from officers or EMS personnel.

She was taken into custody, lodged in the cell block for several hours, then released with a citation for public drunkenness.
