The Western Pocono Community Library took children around the world this summer.
The library's summer reading program, "One World, Many Stories," visited all seven continents and some of the countries within those continents through books, stories, videos, traveling displays and activities. Some of the specific places they visited were Haiti, Brazil, Madagascar, Holland, China, Queensland and Monroe County.
Over 350 children of ages from infants to sixth grade participated.
To celebrate the conclusion of the summer program, the library held its "Parade of Nations," inviting the children to come dressed in attire and to bring in items affiliated with another country.
As a special summer treat, they could purchase a Rita's Water Ice.
Ronald McDonald made a guest appearance and delighted the audiences with his magic tricks.
"Ronald McDonald supports our endeavors here at the library," said Shereen Eckhart, WPCL's administrative assistant.
"He supports children everywhere just like in this reading program," said Claire Richards, Marketing Director for McDonald's.
For many local children, they can say they spent their summer vacation traveling the many corners of the world ... all by simply turning a page in a book.
