Pigs gain No. 71

ALLENTOWN - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs picked up their second win in a row, defeating the Rochester Red Wings, 3-1 on Wednesday at Coca-Cola Park.

The win was the IronPigs 71st of the season, matching a franchise record set two years ago. It also kept them one game behind Pawtucket in the International League's North Division.Brandon Moss hit a two-run blast to right for his 21st home run of the season. The homer came off Rochester starter Andy Baldwin in the top of the first to put the IronPigs on the scoreboard. It was the 30th home run Baldwin has allowed this season.The IronPigs went up 3-1 in the fourth when Josh Barfield doubled, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a Rich Thompson single through the middle.Ryan Edell earned his second straight win, as he allowed just one run on a solo home run to Toby Gardenhire in the top of the sixth. Edell (5-4) tossed seven innings and gave up five hits and one walk while striking out six.Lehigh Valley's bullpen, mainly Joe Savery, sealed the win. Aaron Heilman started the eighth and allowed a hit and a walk while recording just one out. Savery was then called in and responded by getting an inning-ending double-play grounder. The left-hander recorded his first save of the year by retiring the side in order in the ninth.The IronPigs begin a 10-game road trip with two games in Rochester beginning tonight, before heading to Indianapolis for four games. They come home for their final home stand of the season on August 28 against the Syracuse Chiefs.
