Emergency generator could cost $70,000

An emergency generator for its waste water treatment plant could cost Slatington nearly $70,000.

Ten companies submitted bids to the borough on Thursday, with J.B. Electric Corp. of Minersville, turning in the apparent low bid of $69,669.That bid was just $231 less than the next lowest proposal of $69,900 turned in by ARC Electric Construction Co. Inc. of West Hazleton.Other companies that bid were George J. Hayden, Inc, of Hazleton ($70,175); Wind Gap Electric, Inc., of Wind Gap ($81,735); Spotts Brothers, Inc. of Schuylkill Haven ($83,900); Ace Electric, Inc. of Allentown ($84,610); Barry J Hoffman Co. Inc. of Allentown ($84,970); Urban Electrical Contractors, Inc. of Moscow ($88,640); Thomas L. Hoffman Co. Inc. of Allentown ($93,170); and GS Developers, Inc. of Doylestown ($93,600).Borough engineer Jason Newhard said the bids were right in line with what the borough had anticipated. The project is being federally funded by Environmental Protection Agency funds.Newhard said the bids will be reviewed before they are turned over to Borough Council. Council could award a bid when it meets at 7 p.m. Monday, he said.
