Upgrades to its water system could cost Palmerton over $117,000.

Five companies submitted bids to the borough on Monday for the project, which will seek to make improvements to the borough's Municipal Water Authority System.The project is for improvements to the system for Groundwater Rule 4-Log Treatment, with the work to include the installation of 24-inch diameter ductile iron pipe water main and appurtenances at the Authority's Well "A" and Foundry Well sites.Based on the tabulations, Bellview Pump Sales & Service, Walnutport, turned in the apparent low bid of $66,255 for Contract A, which was just $2,033 less than the next lowest proposal of $68,288 by Nimaris Construction of Bath, and $2,145 less than the $68,400 figure from JMT Environmental, Lehigh Valley. Livengood Excavators, Walnutport, bid $87,076, and Sikora Bros., of Shickshinny, Luzerne County, bid $88,240.Each of the companies also submitted proposals for Contract B, with Nimaris turning in the apparent low bid of $51,048, which was $4,374 less than the next lowest bid of $55,422 submitted by JMT Environmental. Bellview Pump bid $55,440; Sikora $60,650; and Livengood Excavators $71,231.Borough Manager Rodger Danielson said the bids will be reviewed by the borough engineer, before they are turned over to the Municipal Authority, which is expected to award a bid when it meets at 1 p.m. Thursday.Danielson said funds for the project will come from the Municipal Authority's reserve fund.
