Lehighton man facing DUI count

A Lehighton man is being charged with suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI).

Theodore Dwight Minnich, 55, of the 200 block of Carbon Street, was placed under arrest following a traffic stop on SR443 in Mahoning Township.Chief of Police Ken Barnes said at about 2:43 a.m. Sunday, police were dispatched to the McDonald's in the Carbon Plaza Mall for a report of a male asleep behind the wheel at the drive through window.While responding to the store the officer observed the vehicle described to him leaving and heading east on 443 and further observed erratic driving.The officer initiated a car stop in front of Fedor's Car Wash and began an investigation. The driver failed field sobriety tests and a preliminary BAC via a PBT test showed a BAC of .23 percent.Minnich was taken to the Gnaden Huetten Campus of Blue Mountain Health System in Lehighton. Blood was drawn, which will be delivered to a lab to confirm his exact BAC.
