Beaver Meadows, Lehigh Township receive transportation project grants

State Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) announces that two local municipalities Beaver Meadows and Lehigh Township have been named recipients of a portion of the red light camera enforcement funding collected in Philadelphia. The funds were recently released by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

"You hardly ever hear about money collected in Philadelphia being distributed to other counties across the state," Heffley said. "It always seems to be the other way around, state funds going to Philadelphia. This law is a refreshing change. With transportation safety money very much needed, I am pleased Carbon County will be able to put in place new transportation and traffic control devices."According to PennDOT, Beaver Meadows will receive $5,000 for pedestrian and speed limit signs. Lehigh Township will receive $21,981 for LED traffic control upgrades.More than 100 projects in 35 counties were funded by half of the proceeds from 19 red light cameras placed at congested intersections throughout the city of Philadelphia."This is an example of a state law geared toward one county also being written so that other counties across the state can benefit," Heffley said.
