The state department of Transportation on Thursday announced it plans to start work Monday on its $538,700 project to replace the Penn Forest Road Bridge.

The bridge spans Wild Creek in Penn Forest Township.

Penn Forest Road will be closed and detoured between Hell Hollow Road and Smith Road. The posted detour feeds traffic over state Route 903, Maury Road, Long Run Road, Fairyland Road, state Route 209, and Trachsville Hill Road, and will remain in effect until construction is complete.

The project is expected to be complete in November, weather permitting.

Minichi, Inc. of Old Forge, Pa. is the general contractor on the project.

The Penn Forest Road Bridge is a concrete box beam bridge that was built in 1956. The bridge is 27 feet long and 30 feet wide with an average daily traffic of 387 vehicles. The new bridge will be a 25 feet long and 30 feet wide concrete box beam bridge.
