Applications are now available for season passes to the H.D. Buehler Memorial (Bungalow) Pool. Opening day will be June 4, at 11:30 a.m. No season or daily passes will be available that day.
Steeply discounted rates for Tamaqua Area School District residents are made available through the generosity of the John E. Morgan Foundation and rates remain the same as last summer.
Applications are available at Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Broad St.; the Tamaqua office of the TIMES NEWS, 200 E. Broad St.; the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce, 114 W. Broad St.; the Tamaqua Public Library on South railroad St.; Fegley's Mini Mart; and Our Family Mini Mart. Completed applications are to be taken to the borough hall. To ensure having your pass by opening day, have your application completed before April 29.
The Tamaqua Area Student Achievement Committee has finalized plans for the 53rd annual Tamaqua Student Achievement Dinner.
The event will be held May 16 in the Tamaqua Area Elementary School.
Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Arrangements will be made for those who wish to attend the awards ceremony only.
Additional information will be available at a later date.
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met April 7 with 84 members in attendance. One new member, Tom Gallagher, was welcomed to the group. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session and offered a reading. Eleanor Roberts offered the invocation, entitled "Thankful for Each Day."
Vice President Doris Roberts provided her weekly report, which included sending a get well card to Sandy Scott. Reports were also provided by secretary Joan Anne Garber and treasurer Dolores Walck.
The group discussed a Chinese Auction scheduled for April 21.
Pinochle players are still needed for card sessions held following the meeting.
The next meeting will be held Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The meeting room is handicap accessible.
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Palm Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is provided. Sunday school for all ages is held at 9:30 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the Ministry Council and local conference will meet at 11:45 a.m.
Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time begins at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, GriefShare and TYM meet at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m.; Friday, Good Friday Community Service at noon, small group meeting at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Musician rehearsal at 9 a.m., praise practice at 9:30 a.m., quilters meet at 11 a.m.

Stations of the Cross will be held Wednesdays, at 7 p.m., during Lent. Also during Lent, confessions will be heard Wednesdays from 6-7 p.m. and Saturdays, from 4-5 p.m., in conjunction with a holy hour that will include Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. The Adult Choir rehearses Wednesdays following Stations.
Help will be needed this Saturday, at 9 a.m. to strip palms for the Palm Sunday Masses. Palm Sunday Masses will be celebrated at 5 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
