It is interesting how two teams will look at a game differently.

Pleasant Valley and Lehighton got together on the soccer pitch Monday afternoon for the first of their two Mountain Valley Conference match-ups on the year. The Lady Bears controlled most of the play throughout the day and went on to win, 3-1. After dropping their first two games of the season, the Bears have now won five games in a row by a collective score of 13-1.Still, head coach Tim Hinton was not entirely pleased with his team's effort."I can't really say what I want to say," said Hinton. "At times we got a little lackadaisical on defense. That is something we definitely have to concentrate on with our next two games coming up (against Pocono Mt. East and Stroudsburg). Usually on Mondays we are a little lackadaisical. We do tend to get up and get motivated for bigger games, but I do think the girls take it a little lightly at times."On the bright side, we did move the ball well. We were connecting passes and were moving pretty easily through the middle. We just have to finish on our chances."Meanwhile, Lehighton head coach Dave Yob was happy with his girls' play. The Indians hung tough when things could have spiraled out of control and they even had a chance to draw to within one early in the second half."I thought we played well," said the first-year head coach. "I am very ecstatic of the effort that they gave today. We could have easily lost 2-1 or maybe even walked out of here with a tie. The kids have said that in the past this game would have been six or seven to nothing."I just can't say enough about the effort that they put forth today. They have been giving me a good effort all year. Yeah we are 0-6 overall, but the girls have been playing hard. We could have dialed it in when it was 3-0, but the girls continued to work and we got a goal late in the game."Pleasant Valley (5-2, 4-0) got on the board at the 17:38 mark of the first half. Kira Sever fired off a hard shot from the right of the net, but had it blocked away by Lehighton goalie Kayla Troutman, The Bears' Dianna Connor was there to put in the rebound, however.The Bears' Kayla Dorney then added second-half goals. Her first goal came off of a pass from Connor. Seventeen minutes later she would add another, this time off the pass from Emily Schlogl.The Indians had a chance to trim the lead in between Dorney's two goals. Jordyn Homyak was taken down inside the box by Pleasant Valley goalie Sarah Elmontacir and was awarded a penalty kick. Homyak let the opportunity slip away as she hit the crossbar."We had a chance on the penalty kick to get back into it," said Yob. "Unfortunately she hit the crossbar."Lehighton (0-6, 0-4) managed to score with 30 seconds left to play. Amanda Acabou carried the ball down the right sideline, got past a Pleasant Valley defender, and shot past the Bears' backup goalie Janelle Pastrana. Kaycie Andrew was credited with an assist.Despite letting up three goals, Troutman played well in net for Lehighton."She has been playing well all season," said Yob. "She has really kept us in games. Plus she is only a freshman, so she has been doing a really nice job for us."While Yob has been pleased with his team's improvement over the early part of the season, Hinton thinks his team may have taken a step back. He will be looking to correct that over the next few practices as his team will be playing two of the the top teams in the MVC over the next week."I told the girls that they better come focused to practice," said Hinton. "They better be ready to work. I told them that we can either work hard through drills or work hard through sprinting for an hour and a half."
