This Saturday, they are cleaning up the town of Tamaqua.
The Tamaqua Beautification Association, the South Ward Neighborhood Committee, the Owl Creek Beautification Association, concerned residents and Tamaqua Area School District students will be combining forces with Schuylkill-Keep It Pretty in the Great Pennsylvania Spring 2011 Cleanup. Three different areas of the borough will be targeted in the clean up campaign - the downtown area, the South Ward and Owl Creek Road.
The Tamaqua Beautification Association will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the M and T Bank parking lot at East Broad and Center Streets. They will then fan out and cover Broad Street, Center Street, Cottage Avenue, Hegarty Avenue, Mauch Chunk Street, Railroad Street, Rowe Street and the public playground and parking areas.
The SWNC will meet at 8:30 at the South Ward Playground, Race and Oak Streets, targeting as many streets as volunteers and time permit. Main areas of interest include the Tamaqua Area Senior High Complex, the streets running east to west and the Hunter/Spruce Street lot. With enough volunteers, the group will also target the streets running north/south.
The Owl Creek Beautification Association will meet at 9 a.m. at the Owl Creek Community Park, located near the Upper Owl Creek Dam. They will then traget Owl Creek Road.
Garbage bags, safety vests, gloves and complimentary beverages will be provided. Tamaqua residents and business owners may want to lend a hand by taking care of their own sidewalks and properties that day.
Filled trash bags must be left along side a state highway for collection, or be transported to a dumpster located behind the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Broad St.
The Spring 2011 Cleanup is sponsored by the Great American Cleanup of PA, the Pennsylvania DEP, Schuylkill-Keep It Pretty and the Pennsylvania State Department of Transportation. For more information, contact Kevin Steigerwalt at (570) 668-3444 or 668-0300.
