Minersville man cited twice within two days

A Minersville man found himself in the custody of Tamaqua Police twice last week.

Justin Neff, 25, a former Tamaqua resident, was cited on March 22 following a hit-and-run accident on Market Street in Tamaqua. Patrolman Michael Hobbs was on patrol at 11:50 a.m. when he observed a white Ford Focus traveling north on Market Street. The Ford struck a parked 1985 Chevrolet pickup truck, owned by Dorothy Deangelis of 15 Market St. The Ford continued traveling north.Hobbs followed the Focus, which stopped on Biddle Street, and identified the driver as Neff.Neff was cited for hit-and-run, careless driving and driving with a suspended license.On March 24, Neff entered the Turkey Hill Minit Mart on East Broad Street at 12:30 a.m. and proceeded to reach behind the counter and take a pack of Newport cigarettes. The store clerk questioned Neff, who left the store.As Officer Matt Bynon spoke to the store clerk concerning the removal of the cigarettes, Neff came back into the store and caused a commotion.Neff was taken into custody and later released. He will be charged with retail theft.
