Raiders get girls volleyball win; Bulldogs, Bears soccer winners

Tamaqua picked up a non-league girls volleyball win, while Northern Lehigh and Pleasant Valley were boys soccer winners in scholastic sports action on Monday.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALLBlue Mountain-LehightonBlue Mountain got the best of Lehighton for a 25-22, 25-17, 25-19 non-conference win.Debra Lobien paced the Indians' offensive with 12 assists, 10 digs and four kills, while Jessica Lobien chipped in with 15 digs and nine kills.Lauren McCullion added 18 kills, while Laureen DiMattia contributed five digs, three kills and two aces.In the JV game, Blue Mountain came out on top with a 25-20, 25-10 win over Lehighton.PM West-TamaquaTamaqua cruised to a 25-7, 25-12, 25-20 non-conference victory over visiting Pocono Mountain West.Paige Baddick led the Blue Raiders' attack with 17 service points, 14 assists, four aces and two kills, while Sarah Lesisko contributed 11 service points, four aces and one kill.Sarah Paluck chipped in with eight service points, six kills and three aces, while Stacey Wallace added six kills.Jim Thorpe-Shenandoah ValleyThe Olympians managed to win the first game, but wound up losing to the Lady Devils by scores of 24-26, 25-17, 25-19, 25-16Alexandria Ventrella and Shannon Green had four kills apiece for Jim Thorpe. Brittany Holland added 15 assists.Shenandoah also won the JV game by scores of 25-23, 21-25, 25-16.BOYS SOCCERPen Argyl-No. LehighTyler Hoppes scored a hat-trick and an assist to help spark Northern Lehigh to a 7-1 Colonial League victory over visiting Pen Argyl.Thatcher George added a goal and two assists, while Aaron Harding, Mike Gaston and Jimmy Bilger all contributed single scores. Ryan Perkowski added two assists.Dylan Grube notched the Green Knights' lone goal.Justin Molitoris grabbed 12 saves in front of the Bulldogs' net, while his counterpart Karl Costantino finished with 20.Northern Lehigh improved to 3-8 overall and 2-6 in the CL.PM West-Pleasant ValleyPleasant Valley blanked Pocono Mountain West for a 5-0 Mountain Valley Conference win.Alex Mansour and Mike Masullo recorded a goal and an assist to lead the Bears, while Malik Krcic and Aaron Cetnar added single goals.Ricky Forte was credited with an assist in the victory.AJ Werkheiser (one save) and Schyler Jacobson (three saves) split duties between the Bears' posts, while Zach Martin finished with seven for the Panthers.Pleasant Valley upped its record to 10-1 overall and 6-0 in the MVC.Palmerton-CatasauquaCatasauqua edged Palmerton for a 2-1 Colonial League victory.The Roughies' Justin Bass and Anas Mauahhid notched second-half goals to provide the difference in the game.Adam Berger recorded the Bombers' lone goal.Brett Snyder finished with 11 saves between the Bombers' posts, while the Roughies' keeper Daniel Fisher ended up with 20.Palmerton slipped to 0-11 and 0-8 in the CL, while Catasauqua is now 2-9 overall and 2-6 in Colonial League play.JUNIOR VARSITYFOOTBALLPleasant Valley-LehightonTwo late touchdowns handed Pleasant Valley a 23-21 come-from-behind victory over Lehighton.The Indians took a 21-9 lead in the fourth quarter thanks to Alex Storm's three-yard touchdown scamper, in which Jeff Ebbert added the extra point.The Bears rallied to pull within six thanks to Hirem Woodneff's hauled in a 50-yard reception for a touchdown and Jordan Caffrey's extra point. Then, Andrew Romeo hauled in a 10-yard touchdown and Caffrey added another extra point to give the Bears the lead for good.The Indians' Berger scored the game first touchdown on a 5-yard run.The Bears tallied a safety and a Romeo 60-yard TD reception to account for the scoring in the second quarter.FRESHMENFOOTBALLPleasant Valley-LehightonMarquis Brown's touchdown pass was enough to propel Pleasant Valley to a 6-0 win over Lehighton.
