Palmerton head coach Paul McArdle knew that his team played two of the top teams in the Colonial League to start the season and drilled that in to the Blue Bombers this week.

There was no doubt that his players accepted that statement with open arms as they handed Salisbury a 36-0 defeat that ended under the "Mercy Rule".The Bombers unleashed an offensive attack that saw two tailbacks, Alex Vignone and Travis Wolfe both rush for over 100 yards (Vignone 161 yards and two TDs and Wolfe 129 yards on eight carries and one TD). The Palmerton defense also answered the call as it held Salisbury to just two yards rushing and 69 yards passing."I was getting a little worried in the first half because we weren't finishing drives," said McArdle. "We still have to get better at that. I thought going into the season we had some nice weapons. We didn't show too much the first two weeks, but we did tonight."I challenged the skill guys yesterday. We lost (Christian) Marcin for this game and asked them if there was anyone out there who could put up a potential "Player of the Week" game for us? We ran Viggy real hard early and Travis (Wolfe) gives us a nice change of pace. That's the way it's going to be all year long."Vignone scored his first TD with 1:16 left in the first quarter on a 15-yard run that was set up on a 33-yard pass completion from Zach Freed to Joevonnie Rodriguez. Vignone also ran in for the two-point conversion to make it 8-0.With about five minutes left in the half, Vignone broke loose on what would have been a 38-yard touchdown run, but it was nullified because of a block-in-the-back penalty by the Bombers.With 9:35 left in the third quarter, the Bombers started a nine-yard drive on their own 18 and Vignone carried the ball seven times, scoring on a 19-yard run. Wolfe ran in the two-point conversion and it was 16-0.In the final minute of the quarter, Wolfe broke loose on a 45-yard run to the end zone and ran in the two-point conversion for a 24-0 lead.Monty Szukics intercepted a pass in the end zone and ran it out to the Bombers' 15 and taking five minutes off of the clock, Aaron Cook's two-yard run ended the drive with a TD to make it 30-0.Shane Christman's 25-yard scamper down the right sideline sealed the win with 5:46 remaining."Defensively, we played fast and got to the ball," said McArdle. "In the first two games we played two teams that will be in the 3A playoffs. So it was nice to play somebody at our level right now. Obviously, the games will be tougher down the road, but this is a good start for the offense and hopefully get us rolling here."It was a tough night for the Falcons, who suffered some key injuries in the contest."The injuries really hurt us," said Salisbury head coach Rob Sawicki. "If you looked at our sideline in the second half we had six or seven guys who play two ways go down."It's a tough situation when you hang tough for the first half and injuries are part of football. You never know when your number is going to be called so you just have to be ready to step in and make the best of it."
